Herbs
Herbs have been used for thousands of years for fragrance, flavor, medicinal uses, beauty aids, disinfectants, as a food source, and even as currency. They can be grown in their own little garden, in containers on a deck or patio, and can even be mixed in with your annual and perennial beds. As you can see, herbs are extremely versatile.
A nice selection of traditional herbs awaits you this year, along with a variety of unique topiary plants and herb planters. Some of the new herbs offered this year include Dwarf Purple Basil and Pesto Basil, Chicory, Kentucky Colonel Mint (the true mint julep), and Tabor Thyme, supposedly the best tasting Thyme.
As always, our staff will be on hand to answer any of your herbal questions, along with offering you a number of recipes, care sheets and ideas for you to take with you.
The 2008 Herb of the Year is Calendula, or the Pot Marigold. Come find out what you can do with this edible, ornamental flowering marigold. You’ll be surprised at what this herb has to offer.
Make sure you leave the weekend of May 17th open to join us in our Celebration of Herbs. It will be a time of informational seminars, food, and plain old fun. Check the events section for more information.
So come on in this year and let us introduce you to the wonderful world of herbs!
