Mark Ebert

Mark Ebert is one of the owners of Ebert’s Greenhouse Village. He is the great mind behind the marketing of high quality plants. His goal is to satisfy every customer, every time. Although he oversees many aspects of the business, he specializes in growing hanging baskets and other annual flowers.

Not surprisingly, Mark has a deep love for working with annual flowers and tinkering with new combinations of plant arrangement. He can be found in the Village at almost anytime day or night from spring until fall. On those rare occasions when he’s away from the Village, you may find him at the market in Madison. If he’s not working, he is spending time with his wife Renee and daughter Sierra, listening to music, playing basketball, or cycling around the countryside.


Ron EbertRon Ebert, along with his father Milton, founded what has become Ebert's Greenhouse Village in 1976. He is primarily responsible for overseeing all the growing and quality control of the plants. He is behind much of the Village's vision and in charge of making many of the major decisions.

Ron can be found in the village just about every day from early spring until mid-summer. When he's relaxing, Ron likes to hang out in the Wisconsin Dells, play basketball, work out, and support Luther Prep Basketball. One of his favorite travel destinations is Disney World.


As head horticulturist, it wasn’t by chance that Mike Timm became known as The Plant Man. It’s been said that if he doesn’t know it… well, that really doesn’t happen. He has been with Ebert’s for almost 10 years. He specializes in just about everything: perennials, roses, herbs, vegetables, water plants, trees and shrubs, and retail chemicals.

He can be found in the Village just about any day during the busy season. Mike often does presentations to local gardening clubs and businesses. Anne AdamsAnne Adams is the anchor of the Gift Shoppe. With 10 years of experience working at Ebert’s, Anne is directly responsible for ensuring that the best customer service is provided to each customer. She is also in charge of merchandising and ordering product for the Gift Shoppe. She has a good eye for “outdoor fashion” and making people happy!

She can be found in the Village most days of the week and on weekends. When she’s not at the Village, Anne loves to cook, spend time with her husband of 21 years, entertain family and friends, and makes her own line of jewelry. Renee EbertRenee Ebert has been with the Greenhouse since 1991 when she married into the Village, so to speak! As the wife of Mark, Renee has been actively involved in the Village projects over the years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education; hence, her passion for working with projects in Kid’s Village. She coordinates children’s fieldtrips and activities as well as handles PR.

She is usually in the Village on most weekends in spring and fall. She is the gifted story-teller many have grown to love while she entertains in the Ebert’s Story-house Theater. In her free time, Renee enjoys dancing and coaching dance, working out, spending time with family and friends, and creating projects and dance routines with kids. Dan Mertins is one of the key people on the growing team. With almost two decades of experience with Ebert's, Dan is a wealth of knowledge on topics such as water quality, insects, annual plant varieties, and plant locations. His primary responsibilities include running the container and pot production team, so the planters can plant on schedule. He also is found helping grow and water the beautiful and lush baskets and annual flowers.

He can be found in the Village from Sunday to Friday during the day. In the evening and in his other free time, Dan enjoys reading, spending time with family (which includes his wife Sara and three kids), and growing his own flower beds and garden. He is a fountain of information and enjoys discussions relating to philosophy, religion, and politics.


Shannon Heinecke is the charming smile in the Village Store. Her sole passion is creating a memorable experience for each customer who comes to Ebert's Greenhouse. Shannon currently coordinates all major Village events and works closely with the PR team.

She can be found in the Village most days during the spring, summer, fall, and Christmas. In her free time, she enjoys gardening and landscaping, scrapbooking, tennis, cooking, and reading. In addition, Shannon is currently attending UW-Milwaukee for communication. With school and work, most of her life is spent either gardening or reading textbooks. Diane O’Brian is a familiar face around Ebert’s Greenhouse Village. She has been part of the business for more than 15 years, specializing in customer assistance, sales, and care of plants.

One can often find her pruning, trimming, deadheading, plucking, or spacing pots. She handles most of the potting orders, including corporate display containers and baskets.

She can be found in the Village from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday during the spring and early summer. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and shopping.


Shelly Mallow is the foundation of the annual flower department. She brings a wealth of knowledge to Ebert's Greenhouse Village in creating beautiful combinations in our containers and in our garden beds. Her outstanding work ethic, attention to detail, and “hustle” are what makes this department so successful.

Shelly and the other team members in the annual department are responsible for the fabulous displays and planters in the Westbrook Greenhouse and on our grounds. She describes herself as a country girl who grew up on a farm and loves every aspect of farming. She can be found around the Village from Monday to Saturday. In the fall, she helps organize the building of the Story-house Theater tunnel and loves working in the scarecrow nursery.


Greg Powers brings balance to the perennial department work force. His gracious personality and witticisms lighten everyone’s day. He claims to have been born and raised on a farm in New Jersey but dropped in Wisconsin by a tornado several years ago. His primary responsibilities include growing, selling, and overseeing perennial production. In addition to his time with Ebert’s, Greg has more than 20 years of experience in the plant industry. Greg is an expert at answering questions regarding plant identification and offering advice for plant placement.

He can be found in the Village from Sunday to Friday for most of the year. In his free time, he enjoys spending quality time with his son Taylor and dog Tanner.


Lloyd Tess brings many years of experience to the trees and shrubs department. His expertise in organizing and displaying product highlights various combinations that grow well together. He excels in customer service by providing timely help and thoughtful insights into common challenges that affect tree and shrub growth.

He can be found in the Village from March thru September on most days of the week. In his free time, Lloyd enjoys hunting, fishing, and watching football and baseball.


Jake

Jacob Mertins is has been with Ebert's Greenhouse Village for many years. He holds a Master's degree from UW-Whitewater in Corporate Communication and handles much of the Village's communication including the website, newsletter, Facebook, and Twitter account.

His other duties include Gift Shoppe management and helping with field trips. His first summer job was planting tomatoes, weeding pumpkins, and picking up potatoes for Mark and Ron's dad. He spent the next eight summers at the Village as general help in the growing department. After spending five years in Korea, Taiwan, and China (learning a good bit of Mandarin in the process), he returned to the Village.

Laurie Knapp is the most recent addition to our team and has assumed the role of Purchasing and Merchandising Manager. Her goal is to fill our giftshoppe and grounds with unique and original pieces of art, pottery and statuary that will not only compliment your homes and gardens but inspire with their individual nature, while incorporating functional garden items.
