From Desk Job to "Boot Camp": Meet Jessica

In March 2019, Jessica traded her healthcare desk and mountain of emails for the rhythmic, hands-on pace of the greenhouse. Her journey at Ebert’s Greenhouse Village began in the annual department, which she fondly describes as a "boot camp" where she spent her days planting hundreds of flower plugs and ensuring every tag was perfectly placed. While the work was physically demanding, she found herself going home thoroughly satisfied by the tangible results of her labor.

Today, Jessica serves as a Gift and Garden Buyer, Merchandiser, and Customer Service specialist. She is driven by a mission to provide a positive, seamless experience for every guest who walks through our doors.

For Jessica, the most rewarding aspect of the job is witnessing the total transformation of the Village with each passing season. She finds inspiration in the guests themselves, noting that many visitors are in their "Happy Place" when they are here—an energy that makes every interaction special. Over the years, she has also mastered the art of the "efficient exit," developing a unique talent for organizing even the most overflowing plant carts to help guests navigate the register lines quickly.

When it comes to gardening success, Jessica’s advice is straightforward and practical: Use fertilizer for annuals and root stimulator for newly planted trees and shrubs. Above all else, be careful not to overwater.

Her personal plant preferences are equally pragmatic. She favors Boxwoods and Zinnias because they are naturally deer-resistant, and she enjoys Hydrangeas and native perennials for their reliability as long-term fixtures in the landscape.

Beyond the Greenhouse

A firm believer that "family is everything," Jessica spends much of her free time with loved ones. She is a true polymath with a wide range of interests, including: Kayaking, tennis, attending theater and concerts, as well as practicing interior improvements, outdoor landscaping, and art.

Fun Fact: Jessica is a twin!
